EDA ROLES

Chief Executive Officer: The CEO is the steady hand that guides the Green machine in your     riding. With an average commitment of eight hours a month, the CEO will:

  • Establish and implement the EDA annual strategic plan (targets for fundraising, membership levels, public events, candidate recruitment etc…)
  • Schedule and preside over all EDA meetings (minimum one meeting per year).
  • Act as a spokesperson for the Green Party at the local level.
  • Be responsible for all non-financial related reporting to the Party and to Elections Canada.
  • Ensure EDA is compliant with the values as expressed in the Charter of the Global Greens. ( https://www.greenparty.ca/en/party/values )

The key goal of the CEO is to have a healthy association heading into the next federal election. Between elections, the CEO should keep volunteers engaged, recruit potential candidates, hold public events and raise funds for the next election.

Financial Agent: The FA is responsible to track every dollar that comes in to the EDA and every dollar that goes out. If you’ve ever done your taxes online, you’ll be able to handle the role of the Financial Agent. In a typical busy period, the FA should set aside four hours a month to:

  • Manage and record all financial transactions for the EDA using the free software provided by Elections Canada. (Accept contributions, pay expenses, contact the EDA Auditor…)
  • File the EDA’s annual financial report with the Auditor and Elections Canada (due annually at the end of May).
  • Manage the EDA’s bank account.
  • Understand and comply with all Elections Canada EDA requirements (as per the Canada Elections Act).

The FA position requires someone who can balance a checkbook. The tricky part is adhering to the many fundraising rules set out by Elections Canada. Luckily there are many resources available to the FA to guide them along the way.

Member at Large: The Victoria EDA elects up to 8 Members at Large. As a Member at Large you will be elected to represent the membership of the Victoria riding. Once the executive has been voted in Members at Large can take on additional roles such as Youth Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator, Fundraising Chair etc.
